Their current winning streak of 79 games is a testament to the dominating fashion in which they have reigned over women's college basketball.
They are closing in quickly on the UCLA Men's Basketball program's 84 game win streak of the early 1970's and are in danger of eclipsing that record in record fashion.
When all is said and done, the U Conn women's program could amass an insurmountable record number of wins that might not ever be broken.
Over the last twenty years the U Conn women's basketball program has been the dominant women's basketball program in America.
Their unprecedented record number of consecutive 30-plus game undefeated seasons is a standard that no other team, men's or women's, will ever achieve again.
I do not jest when I say that U Conn may have set a standard that they cannot even reach themselves.
Since taking over the program, University of Connecticut Women's Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma has turned U Conn into a record-setting, WNBA player-producing machine.
It is safe to say no one can touch U Conn. Not even U Conn.
Auriemma is a demanding taskmaster who expects his players to give 100% all the time and think for themselves. He expects perfection and is never satisfied.
Maya Moore, an All-American and his current senior star player, has said of her coach "if you are not a confident ball player, don't come to the University of Connecticut to play for Geno Auriemma because he will challenge you everyday."
When a player is having a problem in a particular area on the court Auriemma's standard line is "figure it out."
Auriemma expects his players to be mentally tough as well as physically tough. It is the main reason that his program stays at the top of women's college basketball and has the WNBA looking like a former University of Connecticut Women's Basketball players reunion.
Every year Auriemma seems to be able to find the right players to reload his team in order to continue his program's quest to be the greatest women's college basketball program ever.
A feat that I think they have already achieved.
