Time Magazine's Aisha - Story of Cruelty and Punishment

Theresa L.
I just read this story, and it brought me to tears. Earlier tonight I wrote an article about 10 men that were killed in Afghanistan, but now I would like to show a different side of the country.

A young women names Aisha was 18 years old when she was force to marry due to a blood debt. The blood debt occurred after Aisha's uncle killed a member of her husband family, as payment, they took Aisha and wed her to her husband.

Her husband is a Taliban fighter, and in an attempt to run away from him, he cut off Aisha's ears and nose.

Aisha is 19 years old now, and currently living in a women's shelter in Kabul. Next week she will make her way to America to meet with Peter Grossman. Peter Grossman's Burn Foundation not only campaigns against violence for women, but also offers free plastic surgery.

This story originally appeared in August 9th issue of Time magazine, and is a truly sad story to hear. Aisha had told Time magazine that she was "happy and excited" about going to the United States and all she wanted was her nose back.

Aisha's story is truly sad, and a reminder how terrible the world can be at times. It is people like Aisha that we are fighting for, and trying to protect. It is this reason Time Magazine published the story with the headline "What Happens If We Leave Afghanistan".

The sad truth, if we leave Afghanistan we are leaving victims like Aisha alone to defend for themselves. The lucky ones receive a punishment as Aisha has received, but the unlucky ones do not get to live long enough to tell their tales.

However, I can not honestly in could conscience say Aisha has been lucky. She is alive, but the memories and torment she has received will live with her for the rest of her life. If you get a chance, read the August 9th Issue of Time magazine.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is important that we understand the kind of stuff that goes on all over the world. How about the U.S. judge that just ruled a Muslim man had the right to rape his wife repeatedly even though she said no. The judge basically made his ruling based on Muslim law; not U.S. law. How scary is that? Freedom is dying a quick death in America I'm afraid.

Thanks for exposing this story, isn't it sad that such things go on in this world....

It does, and unfortunately unless something is going on (like the war) we never hear about it.

OMG, Theresa, this is an atrocity, such inhumanity against a person. Stuff like this goes on all over the world!
