Time Management Tips for Moms
Here are some tips that can help you better organize your time:
To-do list. Making a to-do list should be part of your evening routine. Take a few minutes to quietly think about what you need to do the following day. Make a list of what you need and want to get done. Creating your list in a time of quiet will allow you to calmly think over what needs to be done. Try to create time and space so that you can properly think about the following day and consider the current day.
Prioritize. This is perhaps one of the most important things you can do in terms of time management. Unfortunately, there is rarely time in the day to accomplish everything you would like to do. Prioritizing is important. You need to evaluate what is important to you and what activities you deem vital. When you make your to-do list, think about what items are most important. Put those at the top of the list. The least important items should go at the bottom of the list. That way if you find you run out of time, the things you don't get to aren't the important things.
Organize. Organization can be extremely helpful in terms of time management. Go over your to-do list for the following day and prepare as much as you can ahead of time. Is the diaper bag fully stocked? Do you have the mail ready to be put out? Laying out your outfit - and especially the kids' outfits - the night before can help you save time the next day.
Routine. A routine can seem so boring these days. But the fact of the matter is that a general routine offers great time management help for moms. This is especially important for working moms. This doesn't mean that every minute of every day has to be scheduled. Rather, a routine sets up regular time frames for work, play and quality family time. Routines also help kids. Most children are much happier when they are on a schedule. You can minimize disruptions and get more done when you have a general routine. Of course, being too rigid is also a problem, since there are times when breaking out of the routine is warranted.
Time for you. This is an important part of time management for moms. You are more likely to be a good mom if you feel generally happy about yourself and you take time out for you. Additionally, when you take the time to energize yourself - through exercise, relaxation, meditation and recreation - you can actually become more productive, using your time more efficiently.
