As an online writer, you depend on technology to complete your tasks and refine your craft. Unfortunately, technology sometimes fails and server connections are lost or the site you are writing for "goes down" for a moment. When this happens, you may find yourself in the uncomfortable situation where all, or part, your work is suddenly swallowed up and spit into cyberspace. Although the original document may be saved in a word document, any edits you have made in the template are often lost -- unless, of course you have installed Lazarus, a Firefox add-on.
Free download
Lazarus is available as a free download that is certainly worth the few minutes it takes to download. It runs in the background and is available with a click of the mouse whenever you need it.
Recovering Text
If you lose connection, or the site you are using experiences technical difficulties, Lazarus allows you to recover an entire form. For writers, that means that anything typed into a template can be recovered in its entirety, saving you the time and frustration of re-editing your work.
Saves Time
Lazarus has saved me hours of work, as I prefer to write in the template on many sites. Knowing that I can recover text at any time gives me the confidence to skip writing in a word document first. Although that may not seem like a major timesaver, it is. I don't have to work with multiple documents, don't need to cut and paste and risk accidentally pasting the wrong info into the wrong section, and I don't need to worry that my work will be lost. For me, Lazarus saves time and frustration.
Convenience
I like the convenience Lazarus offers. If, and when, I need its service, I simply place the cursor in the template and right click to bring up a drop down menu of options. A quick scan to choose the correct information and a click of the mouse is all that is needed to repopulate the form with the lost text.
I use Lazarus everyday as a time-saving tool for my writing. I think of it as keeping a spare tire in the car. I may not need it, but when the unthinkable happens and my text is blown into cyberspace, I have the tools I need to recover it. If you haven't already, give the Firefox's Lazarus add-on a try. You have nothing to lose and just may recover lost text that you thought was gone forever.
