Time Stops for No Man

Harold Dean Sink
After centuries we still search the world over
For the lost land of Atlantis.
We still ponder how such collosal places
Have been built before us,
And marvel at how such inventions
Stll stand after all these years.
Stonehenge, The Egyptian Pyramids,
Angkor Vat, The Mayan Temples...
How majestic they stand and yet
We still don't have all the answers.
Will we ever?
What will be said of us in 2000
To 6000 years from now?
Will the people of that time have
Accurate records of how we survived?
Will you be remembered for some
Worthwhile greatness in our time?
What will become of the human race?
Today, we struggle with battling our worst enemies -
Ourselves.
Will we master energy
And not continue wasting fossil fuels?
Are we ever going to learn how to get along?
Will it take some cataclismic event
For us to come together worldwide?
What will our legacy be for our future children?
Will they be in awe of what we accomplished?
Will they even care one iota?
We want to be noticed,
Loved, cared for,
And yet we don't
Want to get to close.
I can only imagine what Atlanteans
May have thought when they were first building their city.
Would they have ever thought we would
Become the people we are today?
Such a glorious planet we live on.
Let us enjoy our lives no matter
How fleeting it is.
Love each other
And wonder no more.

I don't write as much as I used to, but I do find it as a way to put my thoughts on paper or on the computer.  View profile

A great mirror against which to gauge our pursuit of that which ultimately matters little...

I absolutely adore this poem. These are the types of questions I ponder everyday as I look at my grandchildren and wonder what kind of world they will be forced to live in because of my generation.
