Time for Titans to Part Ways with Pacman

Disappointed. That was the word used by NFL commissioner Roger Goodel in a recent interview to describe Pacman Jones. It is also the word many Tennessee Titans fans would use when describing their feelings about the former 1st round draft pick. With all his potential and ability, Pacman Jones has proven to be more of a headache than anything. With Goodell's decision to wait until after the Pro Bowl to review Jones' status in the league, it is becoming more and more clear that the Titans need to part ways with the cornerback. Whether he is reinstated or not, here are the reasons the Titans need to either trade or let go of Adam "Pacman" Jones.

Pacman has had an entire NFL season off to think about his behavior on and off the field. He had a year to think about the career he has worked his whole life to get, being taken away from him in the blinking of an eye. Most human beings, in the same situation would have found a way to stay out of trouble and lay low hoping to get a chance to continue a career that could make them millions of dollars. Most people would stay out of strip clubs, especially if they had a history of getting in trouble their, But it appears the Pacman is not most people. On January 3rd, just a few weeks before the season would be over and he would have a chance at returning, Jones was involved in an incident in a strip club in Atlanta. Although no charges were officially filed, the fact that he even would put himself in a position to cause another problem is discouraging. During his time off, Pacman has not shown that he can avoid trouble and controversy. His attempts at wrestling and a recent video claiming he wants to be a 'Cowboy' help to prove that he still has a lot of growing up to do.

The Tennessee Titans made the playoffs this year for the first time in years. Perhaps the biggest reason for their turn around is that they had no 'drama' this year in their locker room. The absence of Pacman led to a young team that coach Jeff Fisher was able to mold and jell together without controversy off the field. For the first time in years all the talk about the Titans was their performance on the field. Even the bad talk about Tennessee was about their lack of offense or other play on the football field. With a very young team, and lots of money to spend why would Tennessee want to bring Pacman back. Their chemistry is great know and risking that to give a proven trouble maker a second chance, just doesn't seem worth it.

Furthermore it appears the Titans really don't need Pacman. Sure he is a playmaker on the field and the Titans could use that. But the Titans have an array of young talented players who will continue to develop. Cortland Finnegan has proven to be a solid cornerback in only his second season. This is a position that I think Pacman was overrated at anyway. In the return game, Pacman was very talented. This is a current need for the Titans, but with all the money they have under the salary cap, they should be able to find multiple players who can step in and fill this void.

History has shown that getting a second chance is usually better with a different team. Players like Terrell Owens help to prove this. It is time for the Titans to part ways with Pacman. He has passed the point of return. He can probably no longer be successful in a Titans uniform. And given the success the Titans have had this year, they shouldn't take the risk of trying.
