Time Value as You Age

A Vague, but Important Commentary

Bill Hanks
Before I start, let me say that this is a tough article to write. It is tough for several reasons. First, time is hard to explain. Second. we all experience this. However, each of us handle it differently. Finally, talking about time can be a vague discussion.

So here goes.........

I recently read a blog written by Mark Cuban (BlogMaverick). The blog was about, the value of your time. How we use and interpret time depends on our age. For example, teens will spend a whole day on texting, playing video games, talking on the phone without considering the value of time. Middle age individuals will begin slowing down and placing more value on important things, including time. They will often say, "There isn't enough hours in the day." Older individuals realize the value of time and place more emphasis on saving time and using it wisely.

Our value of time changes as we age. We all reach a point where time is more important, than account sheets and even paychecks. Why is it that we don't realize the importance of time until we are older? The older we get, the faster time goes. But, more important than that is that you can't replace time. Once it is gone, it is lost forever.

Things that were important to us at a younger age, no longer matters. We learn to place emphasis on little things. Family and friend relationships become more valuable to us. We even start watching repeats of Law and Order. We get tired of wasting effort looking for other ways to entertain ourselves.

When we are young, our elders told us how fast time goes and we never took it seriously. It went in one ear and out the other. After all, we are young. Who worries about time? I will tell you who worries about time. We all eventually do. We reach a point in our lives where we start reflecting on our past experiences. "Where has the time went?" becomes a phrase we use more often.

There is an old saying, "Take Time to Make Time." I don't know where that phrase came from, but it is so right.

So why did I write this vague article? Someday it will be "Time's Up." It will be that way for each of us. Time is a valuable commodity. I wanted to draw attention to it. Get the most out of it, while you can.

Time goes quickly, regardless of age.

When my time is not dictated for me by my job or family, I often ask myself, "How can I spend my day? Do I want to be productive or have fun?" I usually do both. Good article.

Good insights here. Of course, your articles are full of insights.

As you say, we become more aware of time passing and "running out of time" as we get older. Yet, it still makes sense to take time to just "be". Always "doing" is a means to ignore the wonder of life and being human. Take time to smell the roses!

Even at 49 I feel the increase in te way time passes and I have to say, I don't like. I can't get enough value out of my days.

The time you spent writing this article was time well spent. Another old saying that is appropriate is "Youth is wasted on the youth".
