If you are a TWC customer - you may not understand the issue. After numerous calls to both Time Warner and Fox, I was able to sift the following information:
Fox is seeking compensation for its programming - at $1 per customer per month.
Depending upon the millions of customers that TWC has, it could be millions of dollars.
However, TWC was going to issue a rate increase effective Jan 2010 so why not just absolve the dollar in the rate increase?
I am the customer and no one asked me what I wanted! Why are the cable companies the only companies that never ask the customer what they would like to have or see? I'm starting to rethink this whole cable thing.
I called the cable company - not once, but twice and both times I got the same story:
You can call our 877 phone number and leave a comment. I tried that but there is no comment option available. I called customer service again to gently voice my opposition.
"Hi, I've been a Time Warner Cable Customer for thirty years. I don't want to lose Fox."
"Yes, Ma'am, we are still negotiating. In the meantime, Is there anything else I can do for you?"
I didn't want to lose my temper, wished her a "Happy and Peaceful New Year" and was about to hang up when she said,
"I know how you feel, I don't want to lose Fox either."
I was reminded that Time Warner is calling this its "Roll Over or Get Tough" campaign. I wish they would just negotiate. "Tough" isn't such a good thing when it negatively affects so many. Sometimes 'Compromising' is a better option.
Seems like they are still in negotiations - I just turned on the television and they haven't cut Fox off yet.
Here's to a Compromising New Year!

Post a CommentTWC was probably wanting to censor news to make BO and others happy, but testing the feedback first.
I agree with you about the cable companies. All of this stuff kind of makes my head spin. You helped me sort it out! :-)
Hard to tell who's to blame, Fox or TWC... Cable is already one of the more expensive broadcasters so rate increases could mean the loss of millions of customers for TWC. I guess only time will tell, it is too bad the customers don't get a voice in this!
Seems to me Fox us cutting off its own nose to spite its face. More people have cable than satellite, at least in my area. Why are they trying to rip off their own customers by forcing Time to pay a dollar for every cable customer, which Time will just then pass along to the customer, along with it's other rate increase? Fox makes enough money, they're just being greedy, IMO.
No American Idol? Can't fathom it. I love that show. I'm sure Lorraine is right. It's usually all about the politics. Too many companies don't care about their customers.
I might suggest that Fox is an outsider rocking the boat with its political middle ground (some might say conservative). The point is that the matter is political, as mostly everything seems to be. And nevermind the customer. They are no longer heard nor matter. I personally stopped my TV service entirely. Your views and business as a customer no longer matter.
Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. Thanks, K
Here in Kerrville, we have lost a lot of good channels. We were never asked our opinion with any of them.
They know they eventually won't have to give in as Fox will not want to loose it's spot so they will give in and as usual we the consumer will lose
Compromise can solve a lot of problems. I wish that the bottome dollar was not always the bottom dollar but customer service and sometimes "cuss -2- me" service! : - )
