Timeless Spring Fashion Tips

Spring fashion is all about putting away all those dark, heavy winter fabrics and dusting off light, fun garments that reflect warming temperatures and budding flowers. In early spring, during March and the beginning of April, the key to staying comfortable is layering. Pair and lacy camisole with a cropped jacket or cardigan. When choosing layers for Spring, you can have fun with bright colors and metallics that you might not otherwise wear. A hint of bright pink or green peaking out from under a neutral jacket gives an outfit a pop of color without going over the top. During the wet, rainy part of the season, wear fun, printed rainboots over skinny jeans, or with Bermuda shorts. Rainboots come in many different colors and patterns such as argyle, polka-dot, and stripes, so rather than being a cumbersome but necessary accessory, they become part of a pretty outfit.

When the clouds clear, get a pedicure so you can be ready to wear all the styles of sandals for spring. This year, flat metallic sandals go well with white capris and a flowing top. They also make a great match with skinny jeans. Pairing shoes with this cut of jeans can be tricky -- stay away from bulky wedges and tennis shoes. Heels look great with skinny jeans, as do ballet flats, just make sure the shoe does not make your foot like wider than it is, or it will appear out of proportion to the ankle. If you have curvy hips, wear heels with skinny jeans, as they will make your legs look longer and leaner.

Bright, bold prints are another great trend for spring. You don't want to overwhelm your body with pattern, however, so use bold prints on just one piece rather than all over. One exception: pick a spaghetti-strap dress that hits just below the knee. If you are petite, wear this dress with heels to make you look taller and avoid getting lost in the pattern. If you are very tall, you can even wear a dress like this that falls to the ankles. With bold, all-over pattern, keep the hair and accessories simple. Or you can go the other direction -- choose a neutral top and pants, and carry a bag with a crazy print you wouldn't dare wear anywhere else!

Most importantly, pick clothes, shoes, and accessories that are comfortable. Spring fashion is all about being casual and effortless, and celebrating the new season with a carefree attitude.
