Timeless Teaser Trailers: 10 Movie Trailers You Don't Want to Miss

I have always been a sucker for movie trailers. In fact, I get almost as much enjoyment out of watching all the previews at the beginning of movies, as I do watching the actual movies themselves. And why not? Teaser trailers are designed for that reason alone - to tease us and draw us in to watching the film. If it's a great action film, you're going to be able to tell from the trailer. If it's a funny comedy, the trailer has got to make you laugh. A romantic film? Oh, you had better feel the angst and yearning in those first 30 seconds!

Here are 10 amazing movie trailers that captivate, titilate and make you yearn to see more of the movies they advertise. Some are classics, some are scary and I even included a new and upcoming film that delivers enough special effects to act like a blow to the gut. Hopefully you'll enjoy them as much as I have!

10 Top Movie Trailers of All Time (in no particular order)

"Casablanca" - Released in 1942, this movie trailer had everything going for it; the music is exciting and dramatic, the credits get you pumped up, and it features amazing talent like Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Even decades after its release, just viewing the trailer leaves you wondering about the mystery and intrigue, wanting to see what happens next. They certainly knew how to draw people in, back in those days.

"Jaws" - Released in 1975, there's little need to introduce Spielberg's classic thriller about the deadliest creature in the sea. Gripping the viewer right from the start, this is the type of movie that will terrify and terrorize you - and it's all the more scary because there really are Great White sharks out there, attacking people. As far as trailers go, this one certainly gets its perks for the creep-factor, between the narrator's deep and booming voice, the eerie "Jaws" theme and the promise of many, many casualties. As if that didn't sink it - the ending catch phrase will bring you in; hook line and sinker. "See it....before you go swimming."

"Alien" - I often get funny looks when I list off the Ridley Scott production, "Alien," as one of my favorite horror films. To this day, I can watch the trailer - the seemingly barren landscapes and strange, otherworldly background noise - and it raises goosebumps on my arms. This 1979 movie was all about suspense and pure psychological horror; the fear of the unknown, the unexpected, and the unimaginable. Starring Sigourney Weaver as the amazing Ripley, this movie is a must-see for any horror or sci-fi buff. Remember - "In space, no one can hear you scream." Brrr!

"Rocky" - "His whole life was a million-to-one shot." America loves its underdogs and Rocky Balboa was no exception. While this 1976 movie was fairly predictable, as far as movies go, you couldn't help but want to go see it. The depth of emotion that was shared in the trailer, as well as the excitement and tension drew you right in and nailed you with a T.K.O. Inspirational and invigorating, this remains one of the best movies ever made and certainly one of the most intense trailers. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire and Burgess Meredith, this is a must-see movie for most.

"Moulin Rouge" - This 2001 trailer came like a bolt out of the blue, streaking through all of the action and horror films to deliver up something completely unexpected - a modern musical. Spectacular, spectacular! Starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor, the trailer is as theatrical as the production, and leaves one wondering what will happen - Will the beautiful Satine forsake her love to save his life? You'll have to watch and see but, rest assured, you won't be disappointed.

"Jurassic Park" - We'd had claymation dinosaurs shoved upon us for years, but nothing prepared us for the animatronic T-Rex and the great effects contained in this 1993 Steven Spielburg production. Starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern and one of my favorite actors of all time, Jeff Goldblum, this movie is the sole reason why an entire generation of people were terrified of velociraptors.

"Interview With the Vampire" - Long before vampires became sparkly high schoolers with bushy eyebrows, they were sinister creatures of the night. Based on the novel by Anne Rice, "Interview With the Vampire" brought us vampires in all their dark macabre glory. This trailer is an excellent representation of the film, keeping you at the edge of your seat but not giving away too many of the good scenes and effects. If you like vampire films, do yourself a favor and check out this vampire movie trailer. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you'll definitely want to afterwards - even if it does star people you might not envision as vampires. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and Kirsten Dunst all shine in this film.

"Cloverfield" - J.J. Abrams has given us some great things, like "Lost" and "Fringe," but few trailers are as captivating as his teaser for the 2008 movie "Cloverfield." Opening on a Manhattan loft party, it lulls you into a false sense of security as partying young adults prepare to send off their friend Rob. Just when you begin to get bored, there's a strange noise and the lights flicker - the group wanders outside and looks around only to watch a great firey explosion in the distance... then chaos ensues. It's brilliant and leaves you totally clueless. You can't help but want to rent the movie, just to figure out what is going on.

"The Blair Witch Project" - Few trailers really leave you guessing and wondering, but I remember the hubub surrounding the 1999 movie "The Blair Witch Project." Opening with a black screen and white text, it informed us of how three student filmmakers had disappeared while shooting a documentary in the woods of Maryland. Only their footage had been recovered. The last couple of seconds of the trailer were a close up of a girl's teary and frightened eyes as she apologized to the families of her friends and uttered the haunting words, "I am so... scared." So was the rest of America. Was it real? Did these people really die? Sheer brilliance.

"Sucker Punch" - I had to include an upcoming movie in the list, simply because I had the good fortune of watching it and found myself utterly captivated. The beginning is rather boring and uneventful; pretty girl gets abused and is locked up in a mental institution. Ho hum. But just when you let your guard down, this trailer explodes into a chaotic whirlwind of special effects, amazing camera scenes and beautiful girls (scantily dressed), toting some BIG guns. Coming in March, 2011, I will definitely be checking out this movie, starring silver screen vixens Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung and Carla Gugino. There is plenty of eye candy to keep you entertained throughout the film, if nothing else.
