In the recession it's useful to have a wide portfolio. Have some investments that provide immediate returns and others that provide more long term income. Tine shares can be good investments. Like all of real estate the majority of the money is made from time shares because of location, location, location! You need to look up what the properties around your timeshare are selling for before deciding to put your name on that dotted line.
Timeshares are different then regular investments however because unlike regular real estate time shares will sometime remain stagnant. In real estate the value unit always increases overtime.
Good investments in the recession have to provide returns. Timeshare can be sold and rented and but the market is not friendly or accepting of time share rental or owning. The recession market is very crowded with people who want to unload their time shares and the market is just saturated with it. Also, timeshare companies are also trying to stay relevant meaning that a large percentage of the market is being eaten up by these companies. In the recession, less and less people are finding the motivation for keeping their timeshare, many just find it impractical, and the majority of them will end up selling it because of the maintence fees according to CNN.
If however you think you have come across a timeshare that is in a location that will turn out to be popular and worth the money consider the fees you will have to pay, before signing the contract. You have to be aware of what the annual fees that you will have to pay each year. Its also important to understand that these fees will probably go up every year. Some timeshare companies will issue you special assessment fees when you purchase a timeshare that will cost you hundred of dollars right there.
It takes a bit of time to be fully prepared when purchasing a time share. Timeshare investing requires a steep amount of discipline to be able to become successful. The more you know about renting and buying timeshare properties the easier it is to make steady decision when buying a timeshare in a recession.
