Timothy Leary's Urgent Message to America

Charles Bukowski, the drunken poet, once wrote: "Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live" (more Bukowski quotes here). Timothy Leary has a similar idea when it comes to LSD. He describes the experience as 'going out of your head' in order to tune in to your inner knowledge and come in contact with your own 'reality'.

In this video, Timothy Leary lucidly discusses the positive and negative aspects of LSD. He likens the psychedelic to the use of energy, and how that energy can be used for both good and bad.

Richard Nixon once called Timothy Leary "the most dangerous man in America". I find this ironic, because I (along with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson) would have considered Richard Nixon to be the most dangerous man in the world.

Timothy Leary died in 1996, but left behind a legacy of fascinating ideas. His life was wild and he experienced many highs--such as being an esteemed professor at Harvard, and also having an international platform from which he proclaimed his ever-changing, but always intriguing, ideology. Leary also endured many lows, such as being imprisoned for his experimentation of LSD, and becoming a political pariah.
