A tutorial for a fun whimsical wind ornament.

Materials
6 - 6 oz cans (tomato paste)
6 - 15 oz cans (standard vegetable/fruit)
1 - 29 oz can (large fruit)
1 - 39 oz can (coffee) can
1 metal funnel
1 spool 20-24 gauge wire
Marker
Wire cutters
Pliers
Drill
1 can metallic spray paint
Glue
Optional Acrylic paint Paint brush 1 can spray weather-proofing sealer

Preparation
Each can should be clean and free of labels and label glue. Run a bead of fresh glue around the sharp edge where the can opener was used and allow the glue to dry completely. Set aside 2 - 6 oz cans and 2 - 15 oz cans. Cut several 2 feet lengths of wire, at least 4 to start.

Use a ruler or piece of paper to divide the opening of each remaining can in half. Make small marks on the rim of the can to match this line. Drill holes about ½ inch from the can top and the can bottom, in a straight line down each can side from these marks. Drill a hole in the center of each unopened can lid except the largest can. The 39 oz can should have 2 holes drilled into the unopened end, on the center line, each about equidistant from either side of the can and the other hole.

For the cans you previously set aside, imagine you need to fill the can half full of water and Mark a dot where this line would be. Drill 2 holes there, ¼ inch apart, only on the cans you previously set aside. Spray all the cans with a light coat of metallic paint and allow them to dry. Repeat the process for the funnel, drilling holes only in the large end, but still finishing with a coat of paint.

Assembly
The pieces should be laid out so that the funnel is on top for a hat, the 29 oz can is the head, the 39 oz can is the body, the 6 oz cans are arms and hands (2 vertical and 1 horizontal on either side of the body), and the 15 oz cans are legs and feet (2 vertical and 1 horizontal on either side of the bottom of the body). All cans should be open side down or back.

Use your pliers to create a closed loop at one end of each segment of wire that you cut. Take the unlooped end of a wire and guide it down into the hole on the left side of the funnel, then into the top left hole on the 29 oz can and out the bottom left hole, down into the left top hole of the 39 oz can, back up through the right top hole and on up the right side of the head and hat. Secure by bending the end into another loop. Repeat these same basic steps to assemble each arm and leg. Attach arms with a short piece of wire connecting the center hole to the top side holes of the body. Connect the legs by running a long piece of wire under the loop of wire on the inside of the body can's lid and down to the center hole of each leg.
