Tina Brown Redeems Hillary Clinton in the Daily Beast

The Big Dog's in His Kennel, Brown Writes

Anthony Ventre
Tina Brown appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe program this morning to promote her Daily Beast piece (The Woman Thing) she did on Hilary Clinton. MSNBC is the only cable news show which has an audience big enough to sustain an agenda based strictly on personality politics, but that's not to say that Brown is not an agile and adept writer. All the better to make an agile and adept dodge at the Hilary Clinton redemption case.

The liberal "progressive" political chattering set feels now a great need to foster a Hilary Clinton redemption, especially now that Clinton works the sidelines. There is also an especially acute need for Obama supporters to make nice with the Clintons after the trouncing and humiliation Hilary Clinton sustained during the race against Obama. You remember the trope. Hilary was the tainted wife of the "first black president" who suddenly became a "racist" during the battle with Obama. The arbitrary and capricious moods of "progressive" writers like Tina Brown is best exemplified by an earlier call by Brown for Hilary Clinton to come out from "under the burkha."

Insofar as that goes, Hilary's not the only administration official with strong inclinations to "go native." Mrs. Clinton was photographed in the hajib during travels to Muslim countries and so was Nancy Pelosi. President Obama, too, was photographed in native garb during a trip to Kenya.

It is well to respect other cultures and religions but it is just as well to present yourself with appropriate pride as the secular American leader of one of the world's great democracies. After all, Hilary Clinton never went to the Middle East with a large cross on a chain around her neck. Nor did former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who was otherwise famous for wearing symbolic pins as she engaged with world leaders.

In her Daily Beast article, Tina Brown now heaps wild praise upon the Secretary of State, an apparent reaction to the persistent question as to whether Hilary has been "marginalized."

The astonishing basis of Tina Brown's praise of Hilary is that she gets along so well with other cabinet members, even feisty Bob Gates, a Republican holdover. According to Brown, Hilary also doesn't complain of being upstaged by Afghan Pakistan special envoy Richard Holbrooke, who was appointed by Obama to do what Secretary of States always did.

Let me tell you that Tina Brown is no slouch at providing laughs as she explains how Hilary Clinton's "eyes shone" when she made an appearance on the Today show, and refused to tell the host (and the rest of America) where she stands on Afghanistan. Remember, this is a woman who moved to New York in order to establish a platform for a presidential run.

Yet, Tina Brown now believes it is "smart and mature" to emulate the president in reeling off a litany of inarguable abstracts about the "extraordinarily thought-provoking" and even "deep" discussions going on in the White House. Deep? Did she say "deep?"Wow, deep discussions between Hilary Clinton and boss Barack Obama are certain to make Mullah Omar's nether regions pucker!

Apparently, this subservient and muted role of Hilary Clinton is "good as gold" for an administration who's main guy is so inexperienced that it couldn't stand up to sharp contrast. For a writer who urged Hilary to lose the burkha, the Daily Beast article may seem like a hastily assembled mixed message. But Brown's "think piece" in the Daily Beast is not without an affirmative all-knowing nod to women's rights, as Tina Brown points to Hilary's greatest accomplishment, that of keeping a lid on her hottie husband.

"The big dog's in his kennel and she's (Hilary Clinton) holding the leash."

Gee, what great things can Hilary Clinton be praised for next? Brown's article tells how Hilary Clinton "sweet-talked" the Turks and the Armenians into some sort of rapprochement. Perhaps Hilary can be credited, too, for heading off the Texas secession threats and for keeping the Union intact.

If you're going to spout out a half-hearted 500 word "critique" of another writer's critique of the Secretary of State (in lieu of, say, forming some sort of actual analysis), would you mind at least Googling the spelling of the Secretary's name before posting? I know spell check usually doesn't catch first names, so at times it's helpful to fact check a reliable second source (say, Wikipedia?)when you're crafting your hard-hitting journalism.

We have really short memories in this country. Hillary was involved in more crap than any First Lady ever has...has lied through her teeth and it all caved in on itself during her campaign. That circus of a campaign was the most true, independent test ever seen on her abilities. What more do we need to see she is just not up to anything without lying?
