Tip to Overcome Computer Hang, Self-rebooting and Shutdown

Have you ever experienced your computer hang, self-rebooting and shutdown often when using. This happens when you have started your computer and run it for a while. These can come from various causes such as:

Installing new un-compatible soft or hard wares.

1. Virus or spy attacks
2. Bad Windows or operating system.

If the cause is any of these, we have to solve it accordingly. Uninstall new hard or soft wares, run virus and spy scans, or reinstalls Windows. But if they are not, the most likely cause is the overheating of the CPU.

Overheating is common in the summer time when room temperature goes up as high as 38 C. Even working in an air condition room would have problem with the summer heat. This is especially true for AMD CPU which is notorious for its high operating temperature. It runs normally at high temperature around 60-75 C.

Thus, your computer runs smoothly when you first turn it on with the cool CPU. But it will start to hang, self-rebooting or shutdown when the heat builds up after it runs for a while. If you do not stop and let it cool down but continue to reboot and drag your CPU, it may cause it to burn and damage your main board and other computer parts.

The only way to cool down CPU and enable it to run for a long whole day is to properly fan the CPU. Generally, manufacturers have properly designed the cooling system for the CPU that needs no our worry or attention. But for many self assembled and mixed-parts computers, there is a concern.

The easiest way we can do is to take it down to the shop and have it fixed. But if you have some basic computer hardware experience, you may do the following with the same result and save yourself a few Dollars.

Unplug your computer completely, open the case and look for the CPU

• Use a tiny paint brush (avoid tooth brush unless it has very soft brushes) to brush off the heavy dust on the heat-sink. Be patient and make sure you dust off the outer part of the whole sink thoroughly.
• Make sure the electric wire is still tightly plugged to the main board after brushing.
• Close the case.
• Position a small electric fan blowing to your computer when you use it.

What I normally do for a better result is I do not close the case and let the extra fan blow directly to the CPU. In this case, you should tidy up all the surrounding of the case to make sure you will not accidentally drop in any heavy object to cause damage. This should solve all your computer heating problems in summer.

Remarks

You may also choose to install an extra tiny fan inside the computer case or change to a larger and better heat-sink to cool the CPU. This way, you can close your case properly without worrying of any undesired damage to the inner computer. Also it will give a respectful look without seeing all the messy wiring. But unless you have advance computer hardware knowledge, do not attempt to do it.
