Add Volume to Thin Hair - Upside Down
One way to add volume to thin hair is through the use of a hair dryer. Flip your damp hair over the head by bending at the waist. Use your hair dryer from the top to blow hot hair directly towards the roots of the hair. When your hair is dry and you flip it back over your head, you will find it has a lot of extra volume and oomph. Please note that it is important to be careful when returning to a full stand as the blood will settle while you are drying the hair.
Add Volume to Thin Hair - the Round Brush
I sometimes utilize a round brush near the root of my hair in the front to add some body. Take the round brush and secure it near the root at the part of the hair and pull the hair up with the brush and then direct a bit of hair dryer heat at the spot. The body will stay for several hours with a decent amount of hair spray.
Add Volume to Thin Hair - Hairspray
Hairspray can also be utilized with a regular hairbrush in a pinch to create some face framing volume. Spray a generous amount of hair spray directly onto the hairbrush and then take the hair brush and pull front pieces of hair up and back from the ear level. It may require several firm brush strokes, but a bit of lift can be achieved this way. Utilize more hairspray to maintain the body.
Add Volume to Thin Hair - The Hat Trick
One of my favorite ways to add volume is very low key. If you have a loose old winter style hat or any secure covering for the head that is not skin tight, gather up your damp hair and relieve all pull on the roots by leaving the hair loose and then securing it underneath the cap. As long as the roots are not pulled tight, the hair drying dynamic will change and add body.
Add Volume to Thin Hair - Product Use
If you want more volume on a regular basis, consider purchasing a volumizing line of shampoo, conditioner, and hairstyling products. There are also specific sprays on the market for being directed at the roots to add a lift to the hair.
These tools coupled with the tips above will have even an extremely thin head of hair lifted to the sky in no time!
