However, looking at it in another light that by asking him if there is something he really, really wants is a very thoughtful gesture. He may give you several ideas, so, once again, take notes for future reference.

Asking Others

Another way to find out what to purchase the recipient is to ask others. If you are buying for your Father, ask your Mother for ideas. I do this all the time, and it works great! Dad has no idea, and he gets a gift he wants or needs. The same can go for any man on your list by asking his wife, girlfriend, best friend, etc. for gift ideas.

Just knowing a little about the man you need to buy for helps in choosing the perfect gift. For instance, if he is a golfer... look for gifts related to his hobby like a picture frame or paper weight with a golfing theme.
