Tips for Anorexia

Jim Posey
Sometimes it is harder for people with anorexia to get help depending on where they live. Here are some general tips and strategies for helping anorexics get on the right track towards a healthy way of eating. Though anorexia is a hard won battle it is possible to overcome this disease over the period of years.

Anorexics have an immense fear of gaining weight to the point where they only consume upwards of 500 calories a day. This has many effects on the anorexics life, for instance, it is not uncommon for anorexics to experience faintness, tiredness, and fatigue. The characteristic that separates anorexics from the other eating disorders is voluntary starvation. The reason for voluntarily starving one self is born out of an enormous fear of gaining weight. The problem is that in today's society no weight is ever low enough so anorexics feel the need to push themselves more and more in order to achieve a perfect body type that is an absolute fabrication.

Once anorexia reaches its limits and the body is in a permanent state of starvation, then the body will start to break down. The anorexic will suffer from malnourishment and the biological symptoms that make up the individual starts to shut down desperately grabbing out for nutrients that aren't there. Death is entirely possible for people suffering with anorexia.

The fact is that people who suffer from anorexia need psychoactive treatment and the earlier on it is administered the better. However, if that is not an option for one reason or another consider the following anorexia tips in order to get more calories in.

Eat six small meals a day. Understand what you have to consume every day to maintain a healthy body weight; this is easily done through a simple body mass index calculation. Once you understand how much you have to eat gradually raise the amount of calories that you eat per day. Since your meals are split into six smaller meals they will make you feel far less full and bloated then eating three meals a day. Make sure not to exercise to compensate for the extra calories.

Anorexics often spend inordinate amount of time in front of a mirror. This is harmful to the psyche of the individual to be scrutinizing every inch of your body. I recommend taking a break from mirrors all together. Glue inspirational papers over the reflective surfaces. Again, all anorexics need therapy these are just anorexia tips to try to relieve some psychological effects of anorexia.
