Tips to Attaining Your Jogging Goals

Marli
Jogging daily is a great way to reflect on your day and stay physically healthy. However, when your will power begins to waiver and you're feeling like you won't be able to attain your jogging goals, don't change the goal, change the means by which you aim to achieve it!

Run Slower

If your goal is to run a certain amount of miles per day, try jogging slower. Starting out strong and empowered may seem like a great idea, but it's really a great way to tire yourself out. Instead, start out at a slower pace continue this way until about half-way through your run, then, if you're feeling good about your run, pick up the pace if you wish. If you still have energy when you're close the end, go ahead and fun a little faster. This will allow you to achieve you goal mileage without the struggle of keeping up your stamina for the entire duration of your jog.

Map Out Your Route then Memorize Your Check Points

Say you want to run at least 3 miles everyday. However, you'd like to add an extra mile if you're feeling energetic. Go ahead and make mental check points of where your 3 mile mark is and how much further you'll need to run to gain an extra mile in your journey. You can do this with any path, also it's immensely easier if you run on a track.

Change your scenery

Tired of jogging in the same old place? This can be a problem, especially when we don't want to deviate from our current route because we already know how many miles we'll run if we stay on the same running route every day. But you don't have to continue with the same old path. Get yourself a step counter that can tell you how far you've gone and change your scenery. Try going to a new park to jog by a river. Switching to scenery that you find more exciting can give you the pick-me-up you need to achieve your goals.

Don't Give Up!

If you have a certain number of miles you want to run everyday, don't give up just because you're feeling tired. If you feel like you can't go on, slow down and if necessary, stop and take a breather. Once you feel like you can continue on, keep running. When you make a mental promise to yourself that you'll run your miles no matter what, it makes it much more difficult to fail.

Perseverance and planning can work wonders when it comes to achieving your jogging goals, but remember to stay hydrated and don't over-do it. If you absolutely need to, you can even split up your jogs into two separate jogs. This will stop you from saying to yourself, "Well, I didn't achieve my goal yesterday, so maybe I can do it again today". The trick is to stick with it until it becomes a habit.
