Tip #1 - Review Your Program Options
Before you go to a homeschool conference it is a good idea to learn more about what will be offered at the conference. It is a good idea to download the agenda and program synopses and to read over what your options are. This will give you the chance to plan out what seminars to attend and what activities to participate in. It will also give you the chance to find activities for your kids to do while you attend the parents' programming.
Tip #2 - Create a List of Questions
Throughout the duration of the homeschool conference you will have multiple opportunities to ask questions that you have about the homeschooling process. To make sure you get all of the answers that you need it is a good idea to create a list of questions. You will want to organize these questions into categories such as: curriculum questions, graduation questions, college questions, religion questions and socialization questions.
Tip #3 - Bring a Notebook
Homeschool conferences are designed as a teacher development event. This means that you are going to be bombarded with a lot of information. Some of the information you will already know, however, some of the information will be new. It is because of the amount of information that you will receive at these events that it is important to take notes. A simple spiral notebook can help you to organize your notes and to keep track of the new facts and strategies that are presented. You can also use the notebook to write down names and contact information of the people that you meet at these conferences.
Tip #4 - Keeping Track of Your Kids
Homeschool conferences are safe events for families, however, it is still important to be able to keep track of where your family members are. There are several steps that you will want to take to keep tabs on your family. First of all you need to designate an area at the conference as the meeting space for your family. Next you will need to establish a check in schedule for older kids. You will also want to provide your kids with a way to contact you. Cell phones can be used as can walkie talkies.
