Its summer time and plenty of families are going to be spending many hours each week at the beach. I don't know about you but when it comes to kids, and sand, it seems to get everywhere. So what's the solution? Well let's face it, we are bound to bring home some sand with us, but it really does not have to be enough to fill our own homemade sand box, right! Well below are several tips that may help you to avoid bringing home the excess amount of sand that we all seem to collect at the beach.
Store and rinse toys
Kids seem to love the idea of bringing lots of toys to the beach every time they go. There are the typical buckets, and sand toys that you will be transporting around the beach, and these items will usually collect lots of sand. Well to help with that, you can try carrying your kid's beech toys in a stand alone laundry basket. The kind of baskets that you usually see in a kid's college dorm hidden in the corner. Not the ones that you carry by hand down to the laundry room. The long ones that can stand are a bit easier to transport if you use some old string, or cloth to put a strap on it. You just simply tie on the strap. Once the strap is on than you can load up the sand toys. After a day at the beach visit one of the rinse stations (most beaches have these), leave the toys in the basket, and just rinse them all off. Let the water run for a bit to rinse away most, if not all of the sand. You will still need to rinse a few pieces individually to makes sure the little buckets don't have sand in them. Lay it on a towel in the trunk of the car, and lay it outside when you arrive home.
Leave the big toys at home
Keep in mind that the bigger the toy, the more stuff to transport. Leave the really big toys at home. Instead just bring a few plastic shovels and some cups. You don't need extra large buckets, to get sand stuck in. Most kids will just be happy being at the beach so why worry about all the extra stuff.
Bring a hand broom
You know those little brooms that fit into the palm of your hand? Bring this along with an extra large Ziploc bag. The broom should be big enough to fit in the bag. Dust off feet and other items when you get back to the car. This will help to avoid transporting sand into the car. When you are done, shake the broom out and place back in the Ziploc bag. After arriving home the extra sand from the broom will be in the Ziploc bag, and you can just shake out in the garbage to empty it.
