Tips to Avoid Burn Out

Lori Piper
Are you burned out? Not sure? Burn out is typically described as a phase of emotional, mental and physical exhaustion. A stage when you are simply tired all the time of everything and sometimes- everyone.

You know you are in a period of burn out if you find yourself having more bad days that good.

I have been there and I do not want to go there again. Burn out is not fun... it takes the best positive aspects of you and buries them under an avalanche of tiredness. Additionally, your health is at risk, as burnout can decrease our immune system. Poor health coupled with pure exhaustion--- not an easy condition to fix. This can create a snowball effect with so many aspects in our lives.

Life becomes difficult to just maintain- let alone live. So... how can we avoid this?

Tips to avoid burnout- be super... in moderation

Even Superman writers needed to bring in Supergirl. Think about it. Delegate some of the responsibilities you have super glued to you back. Co-workers, friends, neighbors, spouses, and children can help.

Tips to avoid burnout- the pen is mightier than the sword

Such wise words... and to which we so seldom take heed. Well, take heed. Write down a schedule, create a list. Stick to it and do not try handling life as a crisis on the fly. Keep is simple is an adage that works.

Tips to avoid burnout- silence is golden

Take a breather from our techno-filled world. For one night a week, do something outrageous... turn off your cell phones, computer, Ipod, MP3, television, and computer. Enjoy you, enjoy your family. Enjoy.

Tips to avoid burnout- no is not a bad word

Say "no." Practice saying it in front of mirror first and then work you way up from total strangers to friends, family and co- workers if need be. The word no is not an end all. Saying no to children who want to go somewhere is saying yes to a family night at home. Which one will have greater emphasis on their future and your memories? Consider the act of saying no to others in the same way.

Tips to avoid burnout- find your golden ticket

Take vacations, have fun. No matter how good you are at something... no one is perfect at everything. Nurture yourself and be true to yourself. If you can do that, you will continue to be good... great.

These are just a few tips to help you prevent yourself from suffering from burnout. For some, additional, professional help may be required. Seek out the help you need. Burn out can be avoided.

Wise tips. We as Americans are entirely too busy, with our multi-tasking and overloaded days, we need to learn how to relax again. We will accomplish more of the important things in the long run.
