Tips on How to Avoid Vacation Disaster

Amy Stepp
When you are planning for a vacation the last thing you think about is what can go wrong, but once you lock your house up and are driving down the road things can start going through your mind and you start to realize that you didn't do enough planning for this trip and you are going to be running ragged the whole time. Listed below are a few tips I follow before I go on any vacation, big or small.

Tip 1: Packing
Make a list of who all you need to pack for. Make sure you count the number of outfits you will need for each day of being away and appropriate clothing attire for the weather. Check the local forecast for your destination on the web so you will know if it is going to be chilly or hot. Also when packing make sure you add 2 extra outfits and undergarments because you never know what could happen like a break down with a car or you may end up staying an extra day or 2.

Tip 2: Planner
Once you have picked your vacation destination make contact the local chamber of commerce for where you will be for all the local places to eat and things to do. This way you and your family can decide weeks in advance where you will eat at on certain days and what you will do to occupy those days. If you have to decide each day while you are on vacation, that could take up more of your time. If you know ahead of time what you will be doing, the days will flow easier. Also ask the chamber of commerce if there are any valuable coupons for the events or dinning that may benefit you!

Tip 3: Check List
The night before you trip begins make a check list of all the things you will need to do before you walk out the door. For example write down the number of suitcases you have, the toys that needed to be packed are already in a bag, the snack bag is ready to go. Other things I like to put on my list are, the fans are shut off, the thermostat is set to a higher setting so it don't go off as often, the neighbors are getting the mail, the back door is tripled locked and other important house items that need to be checked on.

If you do these basic steps I am sure your mind will be a little more at ease and relaxed on your trip!
