When your wife first tells you that you are going to be a daddy, your emotions will probably run wild. You will probably feel everything from excitement to nervousness to fear. And that is definitely normal for first time fathers. However, when the time comes for your wife to give birth to your first child, these emotions could become overwhelming very quickly. You will definitely need to learn how to be a calm dad, not just for your wife, but for yourself also. Tips for being a calm dad during the birth of your child is important and in this guide, I am going to offer you some tips on how to do just that. Whatever you do -- -- Don't pass out! Your wife needs you!
In order for you to know what is happening for the entire pregnancy and birthing process, you can go with your wife as she visits her doctor. Not only will this show your wife how much you care, but it will also help you with knowing what is going on inside of your wife's body. There is a beautiful baby that you and your wife created growing inside of her and going with her to the doctor will help you with questions you may have.
You can also attend labor and delivery classes together with your wife. These are usually given in hospitals or community centers. Attending these classes will definitely do you and your wife good because they will teach you the different labor signs, relaxation techniques, how to breath during labor and more. So when the time comes, you will be able to identify whether or not your wife is really going into labor or if she is having what is known as "Braxton Hicks". By going to these classes you will obtain the knowledge to determine if they are real and what your next steps should be.
Get to know the hospital where your wife is planning to have the baby. You should know the shortest or fastest way to get there in case something happens and you have no time to spare. Once inside the hospital, familiarize yourself with the surroundings, especially the areas that will be important on that day like the labor room, the delivery room, and the nursery. It might also help you to know where the canteen is, the chapel (if there's any), and the waiting area for family and friends to go.
During the process, you can take pictures and video so you will have something to always remind you of that day. At the same time, it will help keep you calm by giving you something to do. Just be sure not to get in the way of the doctors. And don't get so carried away with photos and videos that you forget about your beautiful wife laying in that bed.
So the bottom line to being a calm dad is what my friends say "Be In The Know". Which means learn all you can so you will be well prepared when it comes time for that beautiful and special moment between you and your soul mate.
