Tips for Being Interviewed on the Radio

Whether You're a Musician or Actor, You Gotta Grind to Shine on the Radio

If you're in the entertainment industry and plan to do radio interviews then you must know the process of how things go. Sure anybody can get on the radio and answers questions provided by a radio personality, but it takes a true star to shine and leave an impact in the mind of the listeners. Here are some tips of what to do when it's your turn to shine!

Be Yourself: A lot of people try to go on the radio and be somebody who they aren't. No matter what field of entertainment you're in, be yourself. People want to hear the real you, not some made up person. So when you talk, talk how you'd talk on an everyday basis's, don't try to "show out" or "brag" on yourself, lol...unless that's the real you. Tell the listeners what you're about and the things you're trying to accomplish in you're career. Tell about where you're from, how you started out ect. Answer all the questions honestly as you can, as people can tell a liar when they hear one! Talking out the side of you're neck has it consequences in the long run.

Promote: There's never such thing as too much promotion! Promote, promote, promote until you can't anymore. Through out your sentences always find a way to slip in you projects or upcoming opportunities so the people can look out for them. This is you're chance to really get out there and tell about you're work, so throw it in the face of the listeners constantly. No matter what anyone else tells you, know that radio time is for promotion, promotion of self and promotion of your projects. Promotion time aka "Shine time" is the time for you to brag and boast about your talents, just make sure you can back it all up. There's nothing worst than somebody who "fronts" (lies) about what they can do but can't really prove it. Last but not least, let people know where to find you or you're projects, it will definitely up you're money game!

Showcase Your Talent: Don't just talk about it, be about it! Showcase your craft for everybody to hear. Give people an example of just what it is that you do. For example if you rap, then spit you're most blazin' lines to get you're point across, if you act then say a few lines from your best scene... The entertainment industry isn't long term; this is an industry where you're hot today and forgotten tomorrow so hog the spotlight. Make it so all ears are listening to you and only you, most of all, make it so people REMEMBER you and separate you from others.

Just the thought of a radio interview gives me the shivers but I'd definitely take your article along!

Timely advice for anyone who is looking to promote themselves. Whether you are in the music biz or not, these radio pointers apply to all people looking to get "some shine". A lot of young kids who are dreaming of overnight success with a record deal, don't have a clue about marketing and promotion. This article could start a real discussion of how to get noticed. Based on some of your previous articles...I think you might have a couple of e-books or even offline publishing within you.

This is some really solid advice. Sometimes saying "be yourself" falls on deaf ears when talking to people in "The Business." I like how you broke it down. Regards~Jesse

Excelent job! Too many people on radio (even professionals) come accross as phony, and people can smell pholy like cheap cologne!

    Great useful info!

Great article! I agree; so many people do interviews and they try to be somebody they're not. It comes off fake, and leads me to care less about their career..etc.

Great info. I think I would be too nervous to do an interview on the radio.
