Tips on Being a Leader at Home and Work

Ways to Be a Leader and Command Respect from Everyone

William Bass
Leadership has many faces on the way we live our lives. From having a job to raising a family-leadership is instrumental in developing those that depend on us for the views and encouragement they need to excel in their own lives. Leaders nurture and relinquish power to others to get things accomplished. Leadership is more than just about understanding the numbers you have to open up the emotional side of yourself to connect with others.

Leaders in business must have the mindset to allow others to grow and bring ideas and change to the organization. If a leader just dictates how things are done the organization is doomed for failure. Most companies hire people for a certain job and expect nothing else from them as long as they do their job according to company policy. This is the wrong path for growth for the organization because employees need more than just the same old routine. Leaders must delegate authority and open the walls of the organization to allow employees to be creative and offer their ideas how the business operates. Real leaders should push their employees to do more in their professional and personal lives. Leaders need to encourage change and reward those that excel in changing from a traditional business to one that fosters growth and continuous change.

Employees don't like a micromanager that always scrutinize employees every action or reaction. Leaders need to have confidence and all employees to do their job. Leaders of a business establish the vision and the direction of the company, but understanding that vision may change as new ideas become implemented or the business environment changes.

Everyone is a leader in how they act, think and live in society. Someone is always watching your every move from neighbors, family, peers, and coworkers. So always model your behavior and actions in how you would want someone else to be. You must walk the talk and talk the walk. Of course you will make mistakes, but it depends on how you react to those mistakes that define you as a leader.

Education helps people open doors to many things, but it's your personality and forward-thinking that molds you into a leader. Leaders constantly learn throughout their lives and when a problem arises its how you deal with it that defines your abilities. If you can't command followers in your professional or personal life then you have a lot of issues that you must work out. Remember, just because you're a leader doesn't mean you know everything so build those around you to help you along the path of your life.

Leaders earn respect and encourage others to be the best that they can be life. Leaders are faced with difficult decisions everyday and if you make the wrong choice just stand up and admit and learn from past experiences and move forward. You can't change the past, but you can help alter the future by your decisions.
