If you are new to homeschooling you will quickly see, little expenses tend to pop up during the course of the school year. Even the best planners will find extra expenses popping up. So how can you manage especially if you are on a strict budget? Below are a few tips that may help with your budgeting needs.
Set up a separate account
In my years of experience I have found that setting up a small savings account to help cover those extra expenses really does prove to be beneficial. Each week you can put as little as five dollars into the account. Since most parents stock up during the back to school sales you will have some time to build up money in the account. You will probably not need any additional supplies until a few months after the back to school shopping.
Look for the best deals
When you find you do need something for your homeschool, look around for the best deals. Never just buy the first item, sometimes it is just worth it to order it online and get it later. Waiting a few extra days for an item is worth it if it will save you money. There are sometimes in store deals, but in my experience I have found some of the best deals to be found online. For many websites you should have no problem finding discount codes.
Prioritize
Instead of just running out to the store as soon as you run out of something make a priority list. I have found that this helps me to get the most important items first. This will help you to avoid falling behind with your lesson plans. This is especially the case if you need to make a large purchase and are working with a strict budget. Another way that you can prioritize is to only get what you really need. The extras may be nice, but adding extra clutter to your home, will not help the homeschooling process.
Look for freebies or discounts
There are plenty of websites that offer free educational items or, items at a discount that may help to add the extra items that you need. This is a great way to supplement your school supplies without having to break the bank. You can do a simple Google search, to try and find the items that you need. Also keep in mind that the online freebies tend to pop up at different times during the school year the year.
