There are advantages to investing in your own home gym:
- You save on membership fees.
- An all-in-one machine will fit into a spare corner of a room or in the basement.
- You save money and space by buying an all-in-one machine instead of several individual pieces of equipment.
Before you can buy any piece of gym equipment, you need to understand what your fitness goals are. What do you want to achieve from your exercise? What type of equipment will best help you reach your goals?
There are different types of gym machines available which you can find advertised in magazines, on television and the internet. The most popular type of all-in-one machine is marketed towards people who are interested in lifting weights.
The two most popular of all-in-one exercise systems are the Bowflex and Total Gym brands.
The Bowflex system
The Bowflex uses resistant bows that bend instead of the traditional method of using weights to lift. It is well priced to suit most budgets and is very popular at the moment. It is versatile because it is easily adapted to a wide range of applications.
An added bonus is its ability to fold up so that it can be stored easily, even in tight places.
There is a range of Bowflex models, and the larger ones compete favorably with the type of machine found in commercial gyms.
The Total Gym system
This is the brand advertised by martial arts legend, Chuck Norris and supermodel, Christie Brinkley. It uses gravity and resistance instead of traditional weights, which allows you to adapt the machine to a wide variety of exercises to work many different areas of your body.
The Total Gym is less expensive than the Bowflex.
Bowflex and Total Gym are the 2 most popular brands, but there are several other good brands available as well, including Weider. Before you make a choice, it is a good idea to look at several options to find the all-in-one machine that offers you the best value for money.
The main points to look for when buying an all-in-one exercise system are price, features, brand and suitability. If other members of your family plan to use it as well, you may need to look at a different machine that is suited to everyone.
