Tips for Buying an Electric Frying Pan

Beth N.
If you've ever cooked a huge meal and had all 4 burners on the stove taken with dishes still left to cook, you can appreciate how handy an electric frying pan can be. These pans allow you to cook food just as you would in a normal frying pan, but they operate on electricity and don't require a stove. That makes them perfect for cooking for a crowd...or even for cooking outdoors.

Not all electric frying pans are the same and it can help to have an idea of what you are looking for before you start shopping. Here are some tips for buying an electric frying pan that should give you a good idea of what you need.

Choose Your Cooking Surface

Just like traditional fry pans, electric pans can be found both with regular and non-stick surfaces. Non-stick pans tend to be a little pricier, however they are much easier to clean.

This can be especially important if you plan to use your pan outside away from a sink. With a non-stick surface you can just wipe it out with a paper towel and take it home to wash later without having to cart around a dirty pan. On the other hand, if budget is a consideration you may want to opt for a regular surface and save a little bit of money instead.

Protect Your Hands

It's a good idea to shop for a pan that comes with an insulated handle. The heat from the pan can transfer through the metal up into the handle, and if it is not insulated it can become very hot to the touch. You can get around this by using a hot pad to hold the handle, but if you can find a pan with an insulated handle that is even better.

Get the Right Size

Think about what you plan to use the pan for most and then select a pan that is an appropriate size. Don't forget to consider the depth of the pan as well since you can buy both shallow and deep pans. Try to find a pan that is versatile enough to cook a wide variety of foods. If in doubt it's always better to opt for a larger pan over a smaller one since it will give you more options as far as what you can cook in it.

If you remember these simple tips while shopping for an electric frying pan you should be able to find one that will get the job done and serve you well for years to come.
