Buying fruit and vegetables in season will save you money as you won't have to worry about paying store mark up costs. Choose canned or frozen fruits and vegetables when purchasing out of season. These are less expensive than choosing out of season fresh fruits and vegetables. Check the salt content in vegetables and look for those that are either low sodium or no salt added. When choosing canned or frozen fruit, look for the sugar content and select those packed in their own fruit juice or those that have no sugar added.
Consider canning your own fruits and vegetables while they are in season so that you will have plenty to last long after the season is over.
