Budgerigars or budgie is an outstanding living creature which can be kept as pet. Budgerigars or budgie if trained well can be the best to fight against boredom, as they are very good mimicking human speech and are very active and playful bird. Originally Budgerigars or budgie are from Australia and can live up to 10 to 18 years or more. Thus Budgerigars or budgie can be your life long companion, therefore an exceptional pet. Budgies are members of the parakeet family.

Selection of healthy Budgerigars as Pet
Selection of Budgerigars or budgie some vital points have to be kept in mind. First select the most active, playful Budgerigars or budgie, it is better to pick a young one as pet, because it is easer to tame and teach human words. Secondly Budgerigars or budgie which you want to have as pet should have finest feathers and young budgie must have a full tail and wings. Thirdly never pick huge exposition category budgerigars with Buffy feathers as pets as these birds may have immune problems that affect them to sickness rest of their life. Fourthly gentle and docile bird, can be effortless be tamed.

Selection of cage for your Budgerigars as Pets
Budgerigars or budgie need plenty of space to play, stretch its feathers and to remain active as well as healthy. Put a small pot for drinking water and also to administer medicines and other vitamins and minerals which are most essential for the growth and health of your pet. Eating plate should not be very big. Both the water pot and eating plate should always keep clean; it prevents infection and eating stale food by your pet Budgerigars. Clean the cage and utensils once a week with a water cleanser. Earthen pot keeps water cold and can be destroyed and a new one can be provided, so that your pet always has clean water.

Feeding your pet Budgerigars
Budgerigars or budgie loves nuts as food; you can also add fruits like apple, banana, Orange peels and other fruits as feed for your pet Budgerigars or budgie. You should provide calcium for excellent growth as well as at the time of breeding season. Remove the uneaten food to prevent infection. Always feed fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, corn, spinach, beans, etc. Sprouted seeds are also a brilliant way to add diversity to your pet bird's diet. Eucalypt branches cut in fine bits can also be provided once a while.

So in my advice Budgerigars or budgie as a pet is great choice, it will help children understand bird's world. They can be breed in captivity, a female Budgerigar lays four to five eggs and it incubates in 18 days time. Keep a vigil on the health and activity of your pet Budgerigars. Timely medicines and clean water, food and cage will keep your pet healthy and playful. Bath your pet in a gap of ten to fifteen days will assist your pet to be colourful and healthy.

    After retirement, Winston Churchill had a budgie who used to sit on his head while he was working at his desk. They are great little house pets and good companions. Great article, Jayanti.
