Tips on Caring for Your Lawn and Patio Furniture

Now that summer is fast approaching we all want to begin spending more time outdoors entertaining our family and friends. And why not, with the fresh air, warm temperatures, and abundant sunshine, summer is the perfect time of year. Part of the enjoyment of being out in your backyard is sitting around on your lawn and patio furniture. Give me a fresh glass of ice tea and a good book and I am all set!

One of the biggest issues with having lawn furniture is caring for the various pieces. Yes, they look great when new, but if you fail to give them the proper care they can wear out rather quickly. Here are some helpful tips in caring for your lawn and patio furniture and keeping it look like new.

Obviously, keeping your patio furniture clean is a key in making it last longer. Washing it off once a month is all you need, but what many people don't realize they should do is to wax the frame once or twice a year. You can use the same type of wax that you would use on your car. Simply apply the wax to the frame on your lawn furniture and wipe if off with a clean towel. This will protect the painted surfaces from sun and other contaminants year round.

Don't make the mistake of using any type of pressure washer to try and clean your lawn furniture. Not only can it chip off the paint, but it can be harmful to the cushions or upholstery itself. Simply use a mild detergent and a sponge to wash it off with. Spray it off with your garden hose. Just by washing your furniture off once in a while you will be able to enjoy it for several years.

Another good idea is to store your lawn and patio furniture inside a storage shed or garage during the off season. Most people fail to do this and you can see the results. The furniture can quickly become faded, weather beaten, and even rust out by being exposed to the harsh elements of winter, especially if you live in cold weather climate. I've seen brand new patio furniture become completely ruined in only 2 years from being left out year round. At the very least, store your cushions inside the garage.

Lawn furniture can be quite expensive depending upon the type of set you purchase. By simply taking a few easy steps in caring for it you can assure yourself that it will give you many years of enjoyment for your family and friends.
