Tips on How to Make Children's Clothes Last and Fit Longer

Different Ways to Make Children's Clothing to Fit

There are different ways to make a child's sleeves or bottom and pant or slicks legs longer. There are different ways to extend them to fit. These are tips on different items that may be sewn onto the clothes to make them longer. That is if the clothing fit in every other way.

Here are the items that are needed to make the children's clothes fit. Now use a one inch or two inch piece of ribbon, a piece of material or a one to two inch straight piece of lace. Any of these items will extend the length. It would only take a half of a yard to do both a blouse and pants. Of course depending on the clothes if the material will need to be solid or have a design. The lace should not be darted if so it will balloon out. These tips also can be considered when the bottom of a shirt, top, or blouse is short. However checking the seam on the clothing items is another tip. If the seam is wide just take the seam out. This may make the length long enough after stitching seam. Other items needed are a sewing machine, pins, thread, scissors and a measuring tape.

These same directions will be used with the pants or slacks as well. When working on a top, shirt or blouses start with turning the sleeves or bottom with wrong side out. Then take a seam remover and snip the thread. Now turn the sleeves or legs back out right. Next, measure the item that will be used adding a half inch for seaming the ends together. At this time stitch the ends of the ribbon, lace or material together. When using material it will need to be twice the width to sew together. Then turn material to the right side to attach to the clothing. Next turn the piece of clothing with the right side outward. After sewing place the band around the sleeve, leg or bottom with seam turned out. Following this, attach with a pin to the part working on. Now sew it around to the start then back stitch to hold. This will be done to finish each item.

In addition to these tips here is another one. If at the end of the season the clothes are getting to short but fit all other ways. With scissors cut them off leaving a half inch for a seam. The pants or slicks will be cut to knee length or as shorts. Now they will be worn in the spring and summer months.

There are many other different ways to change or add to children's clothing. By adding to them they may fit another season.
