Tips for How to Choose Bathroom Artwork

Rosallee Scott
Choosing the right bathroom artwork can make or break your entire design scheme. It's usually the first room you visit in the morning and one of the last before going to bed. It not only has to be esthetically pleasing, it also has to be relaxing. It is a place that you can truly express your personal style.

Consider Moisture Damage
When choosing any art for your bathroom, consider the possibility of moisture damage. Unless you have a good quality ventilation fan, the possibility exists. To put it simply, if your mirror gets fogged up when you shower, any pictures will get moist as well. This is why it is not recommended to have oil paintings or even fragile framed prints in this room. Instead look for solid art, like plaques or framed fabrics. If you do choose to hang pictures, check them often to make sure no moisture is getting through.

Work Within the Theme
If you have chosen a specific theme, choose bathroom artwork that incorporates it. For example, you can go literal like colorful fish symbols in a fish space. You can also expand on the theme with mermaids, seashells or light houses.

Decide Based on Color
If you have no specific theme per say, look for pieces that embody your color choices for the room or contrast against it. For example, a rendition of red roses look lovely in a red hued space or stand out beautifully in an otherwise completely white room.

Use Your Own Collections
Old perfume bottles, vintage beauty product signs or retro hair accessories can be displayed in many ways to create art. Hang up some glass or wooden shelves in lieu of other wall hangings. This option really expresses your individual style.

Create Your Own Art
Speaking of personality, what better way to express yours than to create your own art for the room. Instead of choosing bathroom artwork, make your own. Use shadowboxes to create collages or house mementos from trips, like seashells that you picked up on a trip to the beach.

Good information. Its really hard to find the right artwork for a bathroom, especially if you are renting your residence and you can't paint the bathroom.
