When exercising, the sports shoes you wear should not only look good but feel good and ultimately look after the well being of your feet. A proper sports shoe can make the difference between enjoying your physical activity or ending with blisters, calluses, a terrible pain in your heel or injuries in your shin. Make sure to select them well!

Here are some tips when choosing sports shoes to help you protect your feet and your legs when exercising;

Ask an expert. If you're a first-in sports and want to buy suitable shoes, ask the experts that are in sporting goods stores or at the gym. They wear sneakers every day and sell them, so they will know what works best.

Different activities will require different shoes. Each activity requires a different type of shoe. For example, walking shoes are a little harder because they protect your feet from the different soil characteristics on which you walk. However, running shoes are softer and more padded inside to protect your feet from impact with the ground, which is generally smooth.

To do aerobics in the gym, shoes that are used for running will work better because they have air chambers or gel in the soles, which is perfect to cushion the impact.

The shape of your feet also determines the type of shoes you need. To know what type of foot you have, analyze your fingerprint. You can do it by watching your old shoes or putting your foot in the water and then stamping it on a cardboard. If you see the full print of your foot, you probably have feet that are flat or an arch that is low, and you need support throughout the sole.

If you only see the outside of the foot on the print, it means that you have high arches. This means that you need more padding protection for the outside of your feet. And if you see the track fairly complete, you have a normal or neutral arch, and you need a shoe that combines support and cushioning.

If you exercise several days a week, it is highly recommended that you don't use a pair of shoes for more than 6 months. Especially if you run, experts say you should replace them after using them for an average of 350 to 400 miles. With constant use shoes become worn and they will no longer provide the same support that they provided when new.

Try to avoid buying sports shoes online. Firstly, the shoe sizes vary from one brand to another. And secondly, it's very important that you try them on before you buy them to see if you really feel comfortable and if they conform to the shape of your foot. The only good time to shop on the internet is when you know the type of shoe you want and know that the size and model fits perfectly on your foot and suits your needs.

Experts recommend shopping for sports shoes at the end of the day because your feet are at their maximum expansion after a whole day of standing. Also make sure that when you go, you bring your own socks.

The most important part of this process is to choose shoes that feel comfortable immediately. Before buying, try to walk or jump a couple of times with them on to see how you feel in action. Also remember that shoes should give your feet space. For example, you should have the room equivalent to the width of your thumb between the tip of the foot and the tip of the shoe, and you should be able to move your toes freely inside the shoe. If you do not feel comfortable whether it is size or some other area that feels tight, don't buy them.

Put these tips into practice and when you go on a walk or run, or to the gym, you'll feel the difference and your feet will thank you.
