Here are three of my favorite kitchen cabinet color choices for 2009, and in general. All of them work really well in a variety of kitchens and can be taken from one remodel to the next.
Brown Black
A dark brown black kitchen cabinet is a bold color choice that works well with muted warm colored kitchens. This color choice is best used on kitchen cabinets that are made of oak or birch which will take a dark stain well and are easier to maintain. Dark brown, black cabinet doors are readily available in many hardware stores as well because the color is growing in popularity.
In well used kitchens the color works exceptionally well because the cabinets will not need show dirt and stains as much as other cabinet colors might. Dark brown black is also easy to pair with many different colors and color combinations and work well through many paint updates that you may do in the future.
White
White has always been a popular kitchen cabinet color, but recently it has experienced a boost in preference because of its ability to make kitchens appear bright, clean and streamlined. It is important that this color be used properly though, because you run the risk of making your kitchen and cabinets looking cheap, when the best stains and cabinet styles are not use. A great way to avoid cheap looking cabinets is to add nice hardware to the doors. Avoid anything plastic or white, and opt for brushed stainless steel or another nice looking metal.
Red
Red is not one of the most traditional cabinet colors out there, but it definitely has its fans-- especially among studio and small kitchen owners. Red is a very hot color right now though, and finding its way into more and more homes partly because of the fact that more designers are working with it. I have seen red work in a few kitchens exceptionally well and noticed that they key to making it work, was not to overdo it. That is, if you want to go with red cabinets, let that be all the color that you use in your kitchen, keeping everything else white, black and your choice of polished metal.
Look at pairing your new red cabinets with stainless steel hardware, which is the number one choice for designers when using this color. Also, glass fronted cabinets help tone down the color a little more and add a homey feel to the bold color. The popular retailer, IKEA, has a very affordable line of red, acrylic kitchen cabinets if you are on a tight budget.
