Get everyone involved. If you are writing a Christmas letter about your family, then it will sound more like your family if you ask for everyone's input. Ask each of your family members to write several sentences that shares what they would like to say as a Christmas greeting. You might be surprised that what they say is not what you would have in mind. You can then take quotes from their sentences and add them to your letter, or simply print what they have given you exactly word for word.
Share a funny story. Most families give the list of their fine son getting on the soccer team and their daughter getting into the college of their choice. What about sharing a funny story that happened that year that has made your family laugh over and over each time you tell it? Chances are if it has made you laugh, it will make other people laugh as well.
Start with a familiar Christmas quote or song. It is Christmas time, what could put people more into the Christmas mood than starting them with a holiday song or quote that reminds everyone of the importance of the season? There are many Bible passages that would be perfect to add to a Christmas letter, or Christmas carols that you could add for a very nice touch.
Its worth a thousand words. With everyone having a digital camera now, there is really the chance that you probably have tons of family photos from this year. Put them to good use and add some great shots to your Christmas letter. Don't just have a shot of all of you wearing the same red sweater with a snowflake. Show the photograph of everyone on the beach when you were having a great time this summer. Or perhaps the great time you had at a theme park. Or maybe a photo of your child's first day at school. There are so many ideas.
Before you know it, you'll have written your Christmas letter for the year and it will be full of favorite memories and great experiences that you had this year. Merry Christmas!
