There are new types of energy efficient cars such as hybrid. Is hybrid or other energy efficient cars the only way to save money for gas? The answer is no. There are big and small ways to save money on gas.
In winter, it is cold to get into a car then start up the heat. So we tend to leave our engines running for a while before we get in. When some of us go in, it would be nice and warm. When waiting for the car to warm up, you are wasting gas (money). When not just wear a bit more? There are some small ways you can help to save gas. One other is the tire pressure. If the tire pressure is not where it is suppose to be, you can still squander more gas. Make sure you tires are fully pumped.
Now we all like spacious and fancy cars. Do you actually need it? Driving a big jeep to work by yourself each morning seems a bit wasteful. Bigger and heavier cars would use more gas because it would need more fuel to get the car running. Try considering smaller cars if you are driving by yourself. If you have a big car, you might think "What do I do, because I can't sell the car?" There is always a solution. Do you and your co workers live in the same area? Maybe you can car pool.
At where you live, there are probably several gas stations. Some will be cheaper than others. Some gas stations will be farther than other gas stations. Is it worth driving across town just to save two cents? No, it is not worth it. Just think how much gas you will waste along the way there and back.
At gas stations, a membership is a good idea. Some gas stations give you a cheaper price if you have a membership. Saving a little is still saving.
When you are driving, you will have a destination in which you want to reach. You should consider many things such as which are the shorter routes? Will the shorter routes have more traffic? How can I get there the fastest? Which route will help me save gas? These are many things which you should consider. If the shortest route has a traffic jam, do you have an alternative route?
GPS devices can also assist in conserving gas. Since the GPS device already have the maps in there, it can easily tell you the fastest route, the shortest route, and some high advance ones can even tell you which route has the least traffic. A longer route with less traffic is probably faster than a shorter route with more traffic.
Not all shorter routes will guarantee to be faster. Depending on the conditions such as the traffic, weather and so much more; choosing the right route is extremely valuable in conserving gas.
In good weather, it seems better to bike than drive. Sometimes we tend to get lazy and want to arrive at a destination fast. Driving is not always the only solution to get to a place. Think what life was without cars? The only solution was to walk to your destination. There are many ways of saving gas, it just depends on how you do it.
