Once you have a designated area, the next task becomes finding ways to keep it organized. Many times we crafters have so many projects and supplies that it becomes difficult to keep track of everything. Before we know it our creative space is an explosion of stuff with no apparent purpose. This makes it exceedingly difficult to focus, much less create anything.
Below you will find some helpful tips for keeping your creative space neat and organized.
Tips for Creating a Craft Room #1: Allow yourself space to spread out.
Depending on the size of your project, you are going to need ample space in order to get your crafting done. You don't need an entire room, just enough space so that you don't feel cramped, cluttered, and overwhelmed.
Tips for Creating a Craft Room #2: Take inventory.
When designating and organizing a craft space it is important to take inventory of what you already have, what you need, and what you want. This will allow you to design the room appropriately according to how much space you actually need.
Tips for Creating a Craft Room #3: Throw out anything you don't need.
Another problem we crafters have is that we borderline between being resourceful and hoarding. To avoid clutter and several hassles, throw out anything you don't need. You may think that you need all those extra scraps of fabric and yarn, but if you haven't found a way to use them yet it's probably time to throw them out.
Tips for Creating a Craft Room #4: Use organizational tools.
Martha Stewart and The Container Store each have a wide variety of organizational pieces to help keep your craft room focused and organized. They have anything from drawer organizers and drawing boards to magnetic containers and ribbon organizers. Take advantage and keep your craft room free of clutter and confusion.
Tips for Creating a Craft Room #5: Create an inspiration message board.
Sometimes we run across magazine clippings or articles that inspire us to create something. Other times, we simply enjoy motivational messages while we create. Whatever the case may be, make your ideas clearly visible to you by creating an inspirational message board. All you really need is some inexpensive quark board and some pins. That way, whenever you hit a block, all you need to do is look at the board to get your mind jogging again.
Keeping your creative space fresh, clutter free, and inspirational will not only give you the room to create, it will also keep you at peace.
