Tips for Creating a Pumpkin Mask

Shannon Frye
Creating a pumpkin mask is very fun to do. This works great if you work at a day care center or have children. Children love to make masks. This is a very inexpensive decoration that you can make. The only things that you will need are some paper plates, green yarn, orange crayons or markers, hole puncher and some scissors. You will want to give at least two plates to everybody. Pass around a few pairs of scissors. You will want everybody to cut out eyes and a mouth on the pumpkin masks.

The eyes will actually serve a purpose, so that you can look out the mask. You can fold the mask gently so that you can cut out the eye holes. You do not need to cut out a mouth on the mask but it gives it a little bit more decoration. Once everybody has cut out the eyes on the mask, you will want to pass around the markers and the crayons. Make sure that you have a lot of orange crayons. Everybody will want to color the pumpkin. Most people will color the pumpkin orange in color.

Once everybody has colored the masks, you will want to punch a hole on each side of the mask. You will then tie the string around the hole and make the string long enough to tie behind the head. You will need one piece of string on each side of the mask. If you do not want to use string, you can purchase some type of elastic band that you can place behind your head. Make sure that everybody writes their name on their mask. You can wear these masks around for the day and then send them home with the kids.

If you want to add a little bit more decoration to the mask, you can use glitter as well. You can purchase orange glitter or multi-colored glitter and you can sprinkle on the mask. You can use a little bit of glue to outline the eyes, mouth or decorate the mask. Then you can sprinkle the glitter on the mask to get the glitter to say. If you place the glitter above the eyes, you might get some in your eyes occasionally. You can create a stem on the pumpkin if you would like to and you can use green glitter to color in the stem on the mask.
