Tips for Creating a Romantic Outdoor Porch

Shannon Frye
If you have a porch and you're not really using it for anything in particular, perhaps you want to turn this area into a romantic getaway. The first thing that you will want to do is clean up the area. Remove everything from the porch. Take a look at the wood on the porch. If it's pealing you will want to strip the old paint off of the porch and repaint the porch with a bright color such as white or cream. This will help your porch look good and then you won't feel like you're decorating a run down porch. You will need to sweet the porch and wipe it down before you decide to paint the porch.

Now you will need to add some nice comfortable chairs to your romantic area. You should consider some type of outdoor furniture which is somewhat like a couch so that you can sit together, next to each other. There's nothing romantic about sitting ten feet apart from one another. You will want some type of wicker furniture or outdoor furniture that you can place on your porch and not worry about it getting ruined from the sun and rain.

Once you have the furniture on the porch you will need to add some accents. Perhaps you want to place a table next to the furniture so you can have a nice romantic dinner out on your porch. You can place two candle holders with candles on the table to have a nice candle light dinner. You can also place some type of floral arrangement on the table which doesn't take up a lot of space. You will want to be able to see your significant other while you are eating dinner.

You can also purchase different types of light which are dim. You can purchase some lanterns to place on the table or you can hang the lanterns up outside. This will give you a little bit of light but it wont over power the entire area. You can also purchase Christmas lights which you can wrap around the poles on the porch to create a nicely lit area that you can relax on.

You want to create this area to be comfortable and make it somewhere that you can relax and enjoy. You want it to be decorative with candles and candle holders. You also want some light as well. You don't want the area to be too bright because this is not romantic when you have a flood light right in your eyes. You will also need furniture so you have somewhere that you can relax and sit down. Make sure this furniture will hold up against the sun and rain as well.
