Tips for Dating an Older Man

A May-December Relationship Can Be Quite Hot If Handled Properly

K. Taylor
Younger women and older men have been the talk of the town for centuries. The jokes typically contain such words as sugar daddy or bimbo. You would really think that in this day and age that the ole May-December relationship really wouldn't be that big of an issue. Life is short, shouldn't one be happy?

If you are involved in a relationship with someone that is considerably older or younger than yourself, I have some advice for you.

1) If having an older man or a younger woman makes you happy, hold your head high and don't let others influence what direction the relationship takes. Is it really that they don't approve or is it that they are jealous?

2) If you have friends or relatives that are not in a solid relationship, you can expect their insecurities to shine through at the most inopportune moments. Is it the age difference or do they just really not want anyone to be happy? Maybe they have a fear that their partner will be the next on the block to acquire the company of a younger mate.

3) When dealing with your partners children that could possibly be very close to your own age, show grace and tact but don't allow them to be rude or disrespectful to you. If the relationship between you and your partner is strong, you should be able to address these issues and have them discussed with the offending children (who are most likely well into adulthood). You may not be able to give them a spanking and send them to bed but you candefinitely draw a line and let them know when their behavior crosses it.

4) Realize that their may be some differences in what is perceived to be a good time. Your older man may not want to go out dancing every weekend and you probably don't want to spend the afternoon throwing a fishing line into water for hours on end. While common interests are great, don't expect to share them all. A variety of interests and a willingness to compromise will get you much further than trying to twist your partners arm to take you out to the hottest nightspot when he would rather be reading the Wall Street Journal.

No one said that a relationship with a major age difference would be easy but I can tell you from experience that it can be very rewarding. From my own personal dating experience, older men tend to treat women with more respect and kindness than men that are closer in age. Could it possibly be that wine is not the only thing that gets better with age?
