I took her shopping and we came away with a great dress (found on the clearance rack- making it even better!).
However, I informed her, the outfit was not done. Still to be done was the art of dressing up her dress. She would benefit from some dazzle and pizzazz.
At the end of the day, creating a dazzling outfit was not as daunting as she feared.
Tips for dazzling your holiday dress outfit- one piece accessories
Create a statement with one glitzy, yet elegantly understated pin. An outfit can even be made with a simple glamorous ring, or dangling earrings. (My friend opted for the dangling earrings.)
Tips for dazzling your holiday dress outfit- no purse
Last year I attended a Christmas party purse in hand. It looked cumbersome and detracted from the holiday dress I had spent hours searching for in- yes- the clearance sections. This year I am going for a simple clutch. I can even go look in my daughter's closet as her dress up clothes bin is full of my mom's and my old purses, dresses, and shoes.
Tips for dazzling your holiday dress outfit- shiny happy people
Wear something metallic with that beautiful burgundy dress. Or whichever color you chose to wear. Metallics coordinate with every color and pattern, mostly anyways, and jazzing up a simple black sheath with silver shoes would definitely be an eye turner. On the other hand, simple gold bracelets might be all your outfit needs.
My friend was toying with the idea of a pants suit: no way was my stern reply. How often does one get to dress up? To be glamorous? Moreover, one dress is an outfit. With pants, one needs a coordinating top, and possibly a jacket in addition to shoes and accessories. The dress is easier.
Dresses can camouflage a tummy that you do not want being noticed. Elect a style that has a high waistline, or long flowing yet faintly flared skirts, or have vertical lines.
Dresses can create and enhance curves. Pick a dress with ruchings or pleats on and around the bust and hips. Darts and seams can add definition as well.
Dresses can balance figures. Do you have a pear shaped figure? Look for a dress with a close fitting bodice which can show off your upper torso.
Indulge in that second dessert plate. No one will be the wiser.
There is a dress out that for you.
