Tips for Decorating Your Bathroom in a Traditional Style

The traditional style of decorating is a more formal and proper style of decorating. It is the type of style that uses strong, bold designs and colors. It can be a beautiful style for those who love the more elaborate style of decorating.

Bathrooms decorated in a traditional style tend to be more sophisticated than other styles. You could very well see a chandelier hanging in a traditional style bathroom. The glamor and glitz is part of the traditional style. The whole concept of a traditional style bathroom is about luxury.

Traditional style bathrooms are usually done in deeper, richer colors. Golds and other bold colors may be used on the walls. The room may be enriched with architectural details such as crown molding or columns. Mirrors and cabinets may be done in heavy ornate styles. You may find sinks set into beautiful old pieces of furniture.

To create this traditional look in your bathroom, start with a strong wall color. Gold, deep green, or a strong beige will set the backdrop for your room. Window treatments should be formal. Pleated look valances layered over panels and sheers give that luxurious look. Use strong, contrasting colors to give more impact.

Search estate sales for old chandeliers, wall sconces, well made antique furniture, wall art, and other items that might be used in traditional style decorating. Don't be afraid to replace your standard overhead light with that flea market chandelier. You'll be amazed at how beautiful a crystal chandelier looks hanging overhead. Hang the wall sconces on either side of a large mirror. They will give off extra light as well as look beautiful in the overall scheme of your decorating.

A formal looking armoire will fit perfectly in a traditional style bathroom. Dark woods add to the rich, opulent look of the room. Use your armoire to house towels, grooming supplies, and other bathroom necessities.

Don't have an armoire to put in your bathroom? Again, estate sales, flea markets, and yard sales are a great source for any decorating style. You can also check out local furniture stores for any mismatched or slightly damaged furniture.

Use large candles and ornate candle holders and extra large, fluffy towels in deep colors to coordinate with your overall color scheme. Artwork should be formal. For example, a painting of a floral arrangement or even something as bold as a portrait makes great art in a traditional room.

Floral arrangements should be the traditional flowers, such as roses or orchids in large vases. A traditional style bathroom is definitely not the place for daisies in a basket.

Traditional style decorating in a bathroom is certainly more formal than most other styles. Yet you should keep in mind that there are varying degrees of each style of decorating. You can still keep the traditional style, yet tone it down to some extent. However, once again, this is a matter of taste. You can even mix the styles if you want to. It's your home. Just because everyone wants their home to be a showcase of style and fashion, doesn't mean that everyone will agree on decorating styles and trends. If everyone like the same styles and fashions, it would make for a very boring world.
