Tips for Decorating Your Front Door for Christmas

When decorating for Christmas remember that the front door of your home is usually the first thing that people will see, unless you have tons of yard decorations displayed that is. The theme you are using this year should be expressed here first. Keeping a theme to your holiday decor makes choosing decorations easier and will give a nice flow to your holiday home.

Wrapping paper is the most popular medium when decorating your door for Christmas. This tried and true holiday tradition never seems to get old with all of the different Christmas wrapping paper that is available. A foil paper is the most stunning choice especially when viewed from the street. The next best choice is a wrapping paper with a larger print so that the designs do not blend together. Tape is not recommended especially if you live somewhere cold, instead use thumbtacks or small nails to keep your decoration from being blown away.

Ribbon can be wrapped around the front door in many different ways. Start at the top and place the ribbon at a diagonal until it reaches the opposite side of the door. Simply repeat this process for a striped candy cane effect.

Wreaths are a front door mainstay and they come in many different colors, sizes and mediums. I prefer living wreaths, which can be purchased at your local flower store or check with www.proflowers.com for a wreath for any budget or season. A wreath hanger is a necessity if you want to decorate your front door for Christmas using a wreath. They are available for under $10 where most seasonal items are sold.

Mistletoe is generally hung from a doorway and any that pass beneath it are to receive a kiss. Mistletoe is very appealing as a decoration with its greenery and natural elements. Include mistletoe when decorating your door for Christmas and make sure that this Christmas is the most loving one your family has ever had.

Garland is a favorite of most kids because of its metallic sparkle and variety of colors. Garland can be draped to the ground in long single strands, placed diagonally like a candy cane, or it can simply outline your front door. You should avoid using garland when decorating for Christmas if you have pets. Pets love to chew on garland and often swallow more than you realize. Think of your pets safety this Christmas so that they can enjoy many more holidays with you and your family.
