Decorating your house can be as simple or as difficult as you make it, but regardless of the level of difficulty, it is all about personal preference. The color of the carpet and walls, how you arrange the furniture, which cabinets hold which dishes is all about you. But how about when it comes to decorating your kid's room? By following these four simple tips you can decorate your children's rooms with a personality and flavor as unique as they are.

Tip one - Use your imagination.

This is the place where your child will sleep, play, and more than likely spend the majority of in the house time. It is not meant just for display. You do not have to make it pretty so that your guests will be in awe of your pristine decorating tastes. Make it livable for your kid. Make it fun. Customize it to your one-of-a-kind kid. Do not worry what other people think about what is on the walls or they type of furniture in the room. My sister's room was a pig sty, but that was her thing. As long as it was not attracting insects and rodents, when people came over, my mom just shut the door.

Tip two - Do not go with a fad, or you will just end up redecorating.

Kids are notorious for being into something one minute and completely over it the next. My sister spent a lot of time and money decorating my nephew's room in Wiggles stuff, because he was just CRAZY for the Wiggles. A year later, he was done with the Wiggles and insistent, at four years old, that the Wiggles come down.

Now, his room is decorated in simple designs. He wants his room decorated in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles decor, and he wines about it regularly, but my sister put her foot down this time. It only took one expensive mistake to learn the lesson. Unless you have an unlimited supply of money, do not let your kid decorate in anything that is a popular craze.

Tip three - Use paint.

Paint is considerably easier to change than wallpaper. If you are going from light to dark, you don't even need an extra coat! Then, if your kid wants a change, just throw down some drop cloths and go for it. You can even get them involved with cut out sponges to make wacky designs on the wall. The whole family can grab one and paint designs on the walls!

Tip four - Be democratic.

If your have more than one kid in a room, don't let one of them make any big decisions. I shared a room with my sister as a kid, and since she was three years older, they let her choose the paneling. She picked pink flowers. I hated both of those things. When my brother moved out a couple of years later, my sister moved into his room, and I was stuck with pink flower paneling until I left for college.
