Tips on Decorating for Spring

C. Phillips
You may or may not live in an area that is experiencing Spring, but according to the calendar it's officially here. Why not bring in spring by some seasonal decorating around your home to give your living quarters that extra boost from drab winter. Here are some easy tips on how to decorate for Spring.

Colors

Spring means color. So take down those dark curtains and put up some light and lacy window decorations. You can go for bright colors in florals or other well-blended patterns and let the light in by using semi-transparent colors (i.e. yellow, light blue, light pink, etc).

You can also add some simple color to couches by tossing on brightly colored afghans, seat covers, or just a set of new throw pillows. Don't be afraid to make your own, either. You can dress up your existing throw pillows just by sewing a new cover in patterns to match your window dressings, or you can just glue ribbon ties to the back of several pieces of fabric and tie them at the corners for a quick covering that is easily removable.

Other ways to add color are table runners, new sheets, a new coat of paint to cabinets or walls, wall hangings, and new wall pictures.

Quick and edible centerpiece

You can also make some quick centerpieces just using what you have already. When flowers come into bloom you can arrange them into a tall, skinny vase. But in the meantime, you can use seasonal fruits to create weekly centerpieces that are also edible; it will encourage your family to eat more healthily as they see and pass by a fruit bowl at different times of the day. Your only task is to find a suitable fruit bowl that is large enough for your fruits of choice, and will match the colors you have set around. As Easter is soon, you can go for pastels. Cut up colored tissue paper into long strips and use them as a base for your fruits. You can also use these to place your Colored Easter eggs on so they don't roll away.

Flowers

You can't go without flowers, even if you are allergic to real ones. Enjoy the look of well-made silk flowers just by strategically placing them around the house. Put some in a cornucopia shaped basket and hang them on the wall for the bathroom and bedrooms. You can also make floral arrangements for centerpieces or coffee tables. Tie them with some ribbon to the ends of your tables or chairs to spruce up common dinner settings, and give them a home in your most traveled areas of the house. Don't forget to add some greens to your arrangements for a more realistic look.

So don't let a slow approaching spring get you down, you can officially start decorating for spring now. And even if it takes a while to feel like spring, it will still look like it in your home.
