Tips for Decreasing the Instances of Developing Urinary Tract Infections While Using Adult Diapers to Manage Incontinence

Reina Brown
Part of the unpleasantness of wearing adult diapers is developing urinary tract infections. Urinary tract infections are very painful, and some of them can become severe enough to cause other medical problems (Hecht). Believe me, I know from personal experience, since I've been a diaper wearer for years, and I've had plenty of urinary tract infections that have progressed into something more painful. I've found though, that when I took some precautions, my instances of urinary tract infections decreased. As a matter of fact, Because I had a great experience with employing these tips, I'd like to recommend them to you for you to try.

One thing you can do to decrease your chances of developing urinary tract infections when using adult diapers to manage your incontinence is to be sure that you clean yourself thoroughly and properly at each diaper change. It is important to know that women must wipe from front to back, and men must clean their frontal regions very thoroughly, seeing to it that fecal matter does not enter through the hole in their penises, which will cause bacteria to get into the urethra (Hecht). In addition to thoroughly cleansing yourself, you must bathe often. Twice a day is practical because this serves as a wonderful preventative measure for keeping bacteria down.

Another thing you can do is change your diapers as often as possible. If you are a busy person who finds yourself not having a lot of time to stop and change your diapers, you need to try to plan your schedule to accommodate frequent changing breaks. Money may also be a factor as to why you may not change frequently. You may try to stretch your diapers as far as they can go because you are suffering economically. If you find yourself in this situation, you need to get the most absorbent diapers that you can get your hands on, such as Tranquility ATN, Reassure Fitted Briefs, and Secure X+. Diapers that are super absorbent wick the moisture of the urine away from your skin, which will decrease bacteria growth. Because bacteria growth has been decreased, this will decrease the instances of urinary tract infections (Hecht). Of course, if you soil the diaper, there are no exceptions for stretching diapers. You need to change the diaper as soon as possible, preferably without delay. Fecal matter can cause a number of problems if left on the skin too long, hence the importance of having to change so soon. I'm bowel incontinent, and when I have a fecal accident, I don't delay in changing myself.

If you employ these strategies, your instances of developing urinary tract infections will be far less. Your diaper wearing experience will be a lot less painful. I can definitely say that this was the case for me.
