1)Don't overload the dishwasher - Make certain that your dishwasher is not overloaded. This is especially important when you have glasses in the top tray of your dishwasher. If the water can not flow up to the glasses or other dishes in the top tray, it will not be able to clean them. Try to allow a little bit of room between plates and other dishes that you place in the bottom tray.
2)Don't over use dish washing liquid - Believe it or not, using too much dish washing detergent can keep your dishes from getting clean in your dishwasher. The excess detergent will stick to the dishes and allow other food particles to adhere as well. If your dishes come out of the dishwasher with a film like coating, you are probably using too much dish washing detergent.
3) Clean your dishwasher - There are several different methods that can be used to clean your dishwasher. The quickest and easiest way that I have found to clean the dishwasher is to run it through an empty cycle with a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid in the detergent slot. Only lemonade Kool-Aid can be used. The ascorbic acid in the Kool-Aid will clean the water ducts in the dishwasher and leave it shiny and smelling fresh.
Another easy way to clean your dishwasher is to use a few tablespoons of baking soda and a teaspoon of salt in your dishwasher detergent cup. This process will act as a scrubbing agent cleaning the entire dishwasher and saving your a lot of elbow grease. Before you consider the job of cleaning your dishwasher complete, be sure to wipe down the rubber seals along the door of the dishwasher making sure to remove any remaining food particles.
4)Use a rinse aid - If your dishes come out of the dishwasher covered in water spots, you probably have hard water. The hard water will leave unsightly spots on plates and glasses and can even cause permanent damage to your dishes over time. A quick and easy way to get your dishes cleaner in the dishwasher is to add a rinse agent to your dishwasher. Most newer models come with a special compartment just for this purpose. Rinse agents can be purchased at most any grocery store and will soften the rinse water leaving your dishes spot free.
