Tips for DIY Patriotic Christmas Cards

Patriotic Christmas cards are not only for politicians, but for anyone that cares about God and country. It is easy to make your own patriotic Christmas cards with software like Printmaster Platinum. All it takes is a little time and a lot of imagination to make patriotic Christmas cards that you can be happy with.

There are three basic types of Christmas cards- postcards, quarter fold and half fold cards. Depending on who and where the cards are being given, each type is perfect. For instance, a quarter fold patriotic Christmas card is a wonderful add on to a fruit or gift basket. The postcard style is great for quick card giving where the half fold gives a great opportunity to write a lovely letter or sentiment.

There are many ways to show your patriotism without overruling the Christmas theme. Patriotic colors are almost identical to Christmas colors. One way to use this is to include a photo of a green Christmas tree decorated in red, white and blue. Another take is a card with red, white and blue star icons surrounding a green Christmas tree.

A nice idea for a patriotic Christmas card is to use an American flag background with icons of presents scattered about. Or use icons of presents colored red, white and blue. Other icons that can be used is of stars, drums and horns.

If you hare having trouble finding icons that you want to use, design your own. Programs like the Printmaster can help you. Simply place a cutout over the background of your choice and cut.

Choosing the correct frame or border can be all it takes to transform a plain Christmas card into a fantastic Patriotic Christmas card. For example, a Fourth of July border that features fireworks, stars and flags can work with many Christmas pictures such as a burning fire log, snow covered trees and a kissing couple under the mistletoe.

The one thing that most people don't consider when making a patriotic Christmas card is to use Fourth of July pictures with Christmas frames, borders and icons. Obviously a picture of picnic baskets or the White House is not appropriate, but pictures of the waving American flag is. Couple the flag with a snowman or reindeer icon border for a new patriotic Christmas card.

Patriotic Christmas Cards are a great way to show that this country is blessed by God. And since it is so easy to bring your imagination to life using a computer and printer, there isn't any reason why you can't show your patriotism along with your Christmas cheer.
